Estimates
Total Runtime Per Axis
This refers to the total test time spent in each individual axis. Add together the duration of all test types per axis — for example, if you’re running Sine, Random, and Shock, total them up as per your spec. Be sure to include any time required for functional or performance checks of your equipment under test.
Input the result in 30-minute intervals.
Example: 45 minutes of Sine + 30 minutes of Random = 1hr 15min → round up to 1.5 hours.
Shock Test Runtime
Shock testing is usually fast — especially if you’re only doing the standard 3 shocks in each direction (+X, –X, etc.). For quoting, we assume 30 minutes per axis to allow time for:
Control setup
Measurement tuning
Verifying against your spec
If you’re doing repetitive or bump testing, we’ll need:
The repetition rate (in Hz)
The total number of shocks
That turns it into basic maths:
500 shocks at 1 Hz = ~8.3 minutes per axis
So try to factor that in when estimating runtime.
Number of Axes Required
This is how many times we’ll need to reconfigure the setup to apply test input in a new axis. Typically that’s:
3 axes: Vertical, Longitudinal, and Lateral — also known as mutually perpendicular or orthogonal directions.
Your spec may call for fewer or more — just let us know what’s required.
With Respect to Gravity
If your spec says testing must be performed with respect to gravity, it means:
Vertical axis on the shaker
Longitudinal and Lateral axes tested on the slip table, not rotated onto a cube
Either way, changing axes involves manual setup changes, and that adds time. Our estimator doesn’t yet distinguish these test setups, but we’ll review your spec after submission to ensure the quote reflects what you actually need.
Not Sure?
No problem — just give us your best estimates. We’ll follow up to iron out any uncertainties and make sure you get an accurate, fair quote.
